Monday Mantra: Neale Donald Walsch

Life begins at the end of your comfort zone. –Neale Donald Walsch

If you are too afraid to step into the dark and see where your path leads, you will never know if you can find true success. Stepping out of our comfort zone helps us to learn and grow and become stronger people. So take the challenge: what is something that is holding you back and you’re using “comfort zone” as an excuse?

Monday Mantra: Thomas Edison

Opportunities are missed by most people because they are dressed in overalls and look like work. – Thomas Edison

In times like these, ask yourself: what is your work? Is it enjoyable? If life were easy, we would all get what we wanted. But life isn’t like that, and work brings us our rewards. Don’t miss an opportunity because it looks hard. Put in your time and you’ll find your success.

What are some of your experiences where you almost passed up an opportunity that turned out to be a great blessing in your life later on?

How to: Sign Up on LinkedIn

LinkedIn is the newest up-and-coming social site that has gained a lot of momentum in the past few years. Its genre is business, which is a nice change from the fluffy content that you may see on Facebook and Twitter. LinkedIn does have a place for status messages, but comparatively it is grossly underused.

Since LinkedIn is primarily a business environment, there is no reason why you wouldn’t sign up under LinkedIn using your real name. LinkedIn is truly a site where you focus on personal branding.

When you create your account, as always, remember to adhere to Zrii’s Social Media Policy.

How to Create a LinkedIn Profile

1. Visit www.linkedin.com and fill out the box on the right side of the page that says Join LinkedIn Today.

2. The remainder of your profile building is to focus on finding your connections with people. You can add connections by importing your email contact list, or you can search for past and current colleagues and classmates. There’s also a feature called People You May Know, which will try to connect you with past associations based on information in your personal profile—past and current companies, for instance.

You can also connect with groups, and we certainly invite you to join the Zrii group, referred to as Zrii Corp. You must be an associate of Zrii to be in this group (corporate employee, IE, or PC) and we do verify your credentials. You can find the Zrii group via the link on the front of Zrii Broadcast Network, or you can search within LinkedIn Groups for ZriiCorp.

How to: Sign Up on YouTube

YouTube is a great place to store videos and promote your business activities. Zrii Broadcast Network’s Zrii TV is based on YouTube hosting support and allows for easy video sharing around the Internet.

How to Sign Up on YouTube

1. Visit www.youtube.com and select Create Account on the top right side of the page.

2. If you don’t have a YouTube account, you most likely have a Gmail account; you can use either account to sign into YouTube.

When you create your account, remember that you cannot use Zrii trademarks in your username or page title (refer to Zrii’s Social Media Policy). You also cannot change your username; if you want to change it, you’ll have to disable your account entirely.

You can upload pretty much any type of video format, and the maximum video length is 15 minutes (it used to be 10 until a few weeks ago). You have to agree to YouTube’s terms and conditions, which basically state the content you are uploading is appropriate and that you have permission to post the video you are uploading and that it nobody else owns the content. One subject that gets a little tricky here is when you add music to your video. Sometimes YouTube can detect that you’ve included a copyrighted song and will warn you about it. Other times it will not allow your video to post until you’ve changed the music; YouTube is kind enough to offer an alternative selection of approved music that you can use if you wish. But overall you should be fine, especially if you’re promoting self-designed content!

How to: Sign Up on Twitter

Twitter is actually one of my favorite social media sites when you understand how it works. Twitter is mainly a resource sharing site and also a method of online conversation. A lot of people know Twitter as the site where people have posted mundane things such as “I had eggs for breakfast.” However, those types of posts show personality; the other kind of posts are spam posts where all you do is promote your business. Understand right now: social media is not about you. With Twitter, as well as all other sites, you want to create information that is useful to other people so that they’ll keep following you and want to read your content.

How To Sign Up for Twitter

1. Visit www.twitter.com and click on the yellow box on the right that says Create an account.

2. Fill out your information! Unlike other sites, you can change your username later (as long as the username you want is available). You have the option of letting people find you by your email address and subscribing to Twitter updates. Select Create my Account and you’re finished!

Remember you cannot use Zrii trademarks in your username (refer to Zrii’s Social Media Policy).

Once your account is verified (Twitter will send a message to your email account), you can start to find people to follow—search by term, username, subject, or company. You can also change your settings and change your background to personalize your site a bit.

Twitter is the easiest site to sign up for, by far, but it can be one of the more complicated sites to understand, especially when it comes to understanding Twitter terminology, hashtags, and how to jump into the conversation!

How to: Sign Up on Facebook

Anyone can join Facebook. It’s become the most popular social networking site on the Internet, and if Facebook were a country, it would be the 3rd largest in the world. There are now over 500,000 people on Facebook.

To sign up for a Facebook Profile:

1. Visit www.facebook.com. Look for the blue box that invites you to sign up. Fill out your information and then push the green Sign Up button. Note that per Facebook guidelines, you are only allowed to have one Facebook profile.

This same area invites you to Create a Page, but you have to have a profile first.

2. You now have four steps to complete, albeit optional.

Step 1 is to add friends. Facebook will ask for your username and password to whatever accounts you use to associate friends. A good place to start is your email account. You do not have to import your friends from email, but it’s a good way to see who is already on Facebook. However, note that some people are on Facebook but do not use the same email address that you may have for them in your personal email.

Step 2 is find friends, which is if you know someone is already on Facebook, you can search for them manually.

Step 3 is to add profile information. There are a lot of guidelines as to what you should and should not put on your profile, but at least go with the basics of your name and hometown location. You can change your page’s privacy levels and specify who can see which portions of your Facebook profile.

Step 4 is to add a profile picture. This is also a good way to help people find you if they are looking for you. It also helps add a literal face to your account.

To Sign Up for a Facebook Page

1. If you already have a profile, you can build a page two ways. The first is to go back to www.facebook.com and choose the Create a Page option. The second is to go to your Home page once you’ve logged in and select Ads and Pages on the left side of the navigation bar, which will ask you to create a page.

When you create a page, remember that you cannot use Zrii trademarks in your page title (refer to Zrii’s Social Media Policy). If you are creating your page for your business, you will probably want to choose the Local Business option. You cannot change the name of your page so be sure it is something that you will like, and I usually recommend that you create the page with the name of your business.

Note that Zrii LLC operates an official Zrii Facebook page called Zrii Corp. This is the only official Zrii page on Facebook.
